Dedicated Transportation Services (DTS) is a Gretna NE based Motor Carrier. Our fleet of tractors is predominantly Freightliner Classic XL condos. DTS operates tractors and hires drivers as company OTR drivers to drive its tractors pulling reefers, most less than 3 years old, owned and operated by Johnson Feed Inc. (JFI).  A high percentage of the loads in the central area of the US are drop and hook with an out and back dispatch.  Solo mileage generally runs 11,000 to 13,000 miles per month.  Monthly mileage depends somewhat on driver’s home time requirements. DTS expects 12,000 miles per month per driver which results in drivers pay in excess of $1,500 per week.

Present operations involve meat and ice cream loads from Sioux Falls SD, Worthington MN, and various locations in NE and IA to two different areas: (1) to destination points in KS, OK and northern TX with return meat loads from Amarillo TX, Guymon OK, Liberal, Holcomb, Dodge City and Kansas City KS returning to NE, IA and MN. (2) From the above loading points in SD, MN, NE and IA to the Southeast returning with furniture to a receiver located in Baraboo, WI, Sioux Falls and Beresford SD. As stated previously a very high percentage of these loads are drop and hook on both ends.

DTS utilizes a payroll company Transport Leasing Contract (TLC) to perform taxable payroll for its OTR drivers and to qualify and provide qualification files on its OTR drivers.  As a result DTS utilizes TLC driver applications. TLC processes and then forwards the qualification file to DTS.  DTS/TLC employees on direct deposit receive two deposits each Wednesday.  A DTS OTR driver receives his taxable paycheck from TLC and receives an expense reimbursement check from DTS that is not taxable.  TLC pays all the payroll taxes and related payroll expenses including Worker’s Compensation and Unemployment Compensation. Due to the fact TLC pays thousands of drivers each week they can offer a driver many benefits that a small company cannot.  These benefits at favorable rates include Dental, Eye Care, Additional life insurance (DTS provides some life insurance on each of its drivers), disability insurance, prepaid legal etc.

The advantage to you as an OTR driver for DTS is that with the DTS structure you are working for a small fleet with direct access to the owner but have many of the advantages of a much larger company. That is where JFI comes in. It takes a large company with resources to put together a customer base of national accounts with drop trailers to make your job as a driver as smooth and seamless as possible. With TLC performing the taxable payroll and being responsible for paying all payroll taxes, Worker’s Comp and Unemployment taxes, you as a DTS OTR driver have the best of both worlds with the DTS corporate structure.
